Debrief

As the bridge was engulfed in flame, it disappeared into thin air and the walls returned to their normal colors. Captain Vincent moved in front of the cadet and turned to face her.

"Well done Cadet, your examination is now over," he said. "The situation that you faced is one that is encountered far too often in times of war. These circumstances are not normal in Starfleet due to our concentration on exploration, but you must be prepared for them. You handled yourself with dignity after losing your first officer in a sudden and unexpected ambush and you did not give up when your ship was crippled and outnumbered. Take this experience with you and reflect on your decisions here today to prepare yourself for the reality of your career. I will provide a detailed evaluation of your performance tomorrow. If you have no questions, you are dismissed." 

"No questions sir, thank you" Alex responded and left the simulator, before she did and standing in the doorway she looked at Vincent "where my xo was concerned Sir my papa always said thats what xos are for and that being a co such choices have to be made, I do believe that type of decision is what is usually given to a Lt. Cmdr when ghey are gking for full Commander, was my father correct in this?" She asked.

"Your father is correct in that your XO is often your most trusted and accomplished officer, and as such is a good choice to lead away teams," the Captain responded. "And you will face life and death situations in your career, not only in exams, and you will order crewmen and officers to their deaths. The key to being a good Captain is finding a balance between caring about your crew enough to keep them safe, but not hesitating to make sacrifices when they are necessary for the greater good."

Satisfied with his answer Alex left the holodeck allowing the doors to close behind her.
