Tall and slim fourtyish human male with some slight grey at the temples. His looks have been patterned after those of legendary Starfleet Doctor Leonard H McCoy when he started serving in Starfleet.

This is a version of the standard MKII version firs tested in the last decades of the 24th century and now prooftested under all possible conditions for the last quarter of a century. There is a built-in feature in its programming to prevent the emergence of sentience, even after prolonged use, so as to avoid the ethical and legal problems of such emergence. Bedside manners are much improved on the earlier, famous MK1 model.

Programmed with the total sum of all medical knowledge from 150 worlds accross six millenias and with the expertise of a hundred famous physicians of history, from Hyppocratus to Dr Beverly Crusher.

Has no knowledge or interest or capability whatsoever in any field outside medical and biological sciences. The EMH however can be reprogrammed instantly as a replacement officier for any function on the ship, including Command, with appropriate data set from the main computer replacing completely the medical programming.

First brought on line on the trial runs of the starship USS Horizon where it is assigned as temporary replacement for a missing physician personel or a san additional medical back up.

because of the exceptional authority of a ship doctor to order even the captain for medical or psychological reasons, the EMH is being given the rank of Lieuteannt Commander so as to have access to the proper level of authorization and command to do so, as well as for replacement functions of other types of officers in a crisis.
